Douglasdale property affords its residents a convenient location in a delightful middle- to upper middle class residential suburb, once part of the old Randburg municipality prior to its incorporation into the Johannesburg Metro. It is situated between Bryanston West, Johannesburg North and Fourways to its immediate north. Main access is from the Bryanston / Fourways N1 interchange onto William Nicol and into Leslie West, from Hornbill Avenue in the north or from Witkoppen Road south up Douglas Drive. It is beautifully situated on a north-facing gradient with majestic views towards the Magaliesberg.


Douglasdale’s history can be traced back to the 1890s. Thomas and Janet Douglas, Scottish emigrants, bought a farm overlooking the Klein Jukskei River and called it Douglasdale Farm. The farmhouse, one of the oldest homes in the north, was built in 1905 and from here the family started producing milk in the 1930s. Douglasdale Dairy has subsequently become a major supplier of milk in Gauteng, still operating from the original site, now a part of Bryanston West. The northern part of the farm was sub-divided and both areas were intersected by the new N1 at the time.


The Douglasdale area today is mainly a residential suburb but has in the last ten years enjoyed some of its own retail support services. The most significant change in its landscape has been in the nature and character of this property in South Africa and resident profile. Much of the older Douglasdale properties (larger family properties) have been bought up, rezoned and developed into large, multiple-unit, sectional title lifestyle townhouses. In addition, a number of very exclusive, upmarket and also medium-density, more affordable, free hold cluster schemes have been built. Norscot Koppies in Fourways is a protected natural Parkland and the area borders on Robyn- and Juweel Parks which follow the river course of the Klein Jukskei. There are Methodist Churches in Lonehill and in Bryanston; Anglican churches in Mount Street, Kengies and Sunninghill, as well as various Catholic churches. New Life Churches are found in Bryanston and Lonehill.
