Paulshof Property
The Paulshof property region is a quiet, fairly central, upper middle-class residential suburb north of Petervale and the Rivonia property extensions, east of Lonehill, west of Sunninghill property and with Leeukop Estate on its northern boundary. Today, Paulshof has a bustling business and commercial strip along the length and on both sides of Witkoppen Road. Its main access points are from Witkoppen Road, east to Sunninghill and west to Fourways, Cambridge Road from the Bryanston side, and minutes from N1 circular highway via the Rivonia interchange. Originally part of Sandton, Paulshof is now part of the Greater Johannesburg Municipal Council Region A.
Paulshof was originally named after Paul Mare, who farmed this part of the greater Rietfontein Farm. His sons continued to live in the area until quite recently. Laing, another farmer in the area, called his Paulshof property Kildrummy, and Paulshof, for a while, became known as Kildrummy-Paulshof. A dispute arose and in the late 1970s, in an effort to promote Afrikaans suburban names, the suburb was renamed Paulshof – the Garden Village of the North.
Paulshof runs from Main Road Bryanston to Link/Rivonia Road extension and can be split into five main sectors and comprises a quiet, green, cosy suburban node of single family homes; areas of high density sectional title townhouses which serve as a buffer zone between the suburb and the busy road; office parks north and south of Witkoppen Road; two busy commercial nodes, one west and one east, with business services - mainly motor, building/hardware and allied; and lastly, the Cambridge Crossing retail shopping centre with restaurants and basic community services.
There are three main types of residential Paulshof properties available – formal, 3/4 bedroom single family homes on approximately 1000m² stands; sectional title, high/low density, studio, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom townhouse developments, built mainly in the 1990s and recently in 2005-2007; and small, full title secure cluster complexes. Office parks are essentially smaller, A-grade type office buildings and commercial property is mainly of the service centre/retail showroom type with small warehousing and distribution points.
The Residents and Ratepayers Association (PRRA), who separate Paulshof into four areas of management control, is very committed to not only the maintenance of its green heritage, parks, trails, river- and spruit areas, but also to the prevention and elimination of crime. Paulshof has as it greatest pride its beautiful parks, conservation- and river areas such as the Rietfontein Ridge, Jukskei River Trail and the Braamfontein Spruit. The region actively drives a greenbelt project team for ultimate benefit of the area and its residents.
The Cambridge Crossing mainly caters for retail communal services, but also has a number of restaurants, cafes and bistros. The spiritual needs of the community are mainly catered for by a Methodist Church in Lonehill, a Catholic Church in Woodmead, an Anglican worship venue in Sunninghill and a Synagogue/Shul in Morningside. The nearest hospital is the renowned Sunninghill off Witkoppen Road and there is a Virgin Active up the road at Chilli Lane in Sunninghill, with a Planet Fitness in Fourways. Paulshof has the Rivonia Recreation Club in the suburb and is not too far from the Megawatt Park Club and the German Country Club.
St. Peters Prep is the best-known school in Paulshof, but Rivonia Primary and Michael Mount in Bryanston and Crawford College in Lonehill are not that far away either.
The Garden Village of the North, as Paulshof is called, is a highly desirable middle- to upper income suburb. It has retained its almost rural character and yet its central location affords quick, easy access to business- and commercial centres, as well as recreation and entertainment. The Residents and Ratepayers Association have made a huge contribution toward the maintenance of property values and the excellent resale potential of Paulshof.
